Project 103, Donated cost: US$13,800 – Installation of a pipeline to provide Budun village, 35 families, Vanj District, GBAO Region, access to safe drinking water from spring source, 5750 meters up a mountain.
Funded by: Dhananis
Budun Village
Pre-project Situation
The 35 household that reside in the Budun village currently are using the water from the river as a source of the drinking water. The water in the river is not safe, as it can have a lot of microorganisms, that can serve as a cause of the infectious diseases. Since children more tend to drink the water without boiling it, they are the one that mostly get sick with diarrhea. As it noted by the village nurse, diarrhea is actually the main reason for anemia amongst children of the village and the whole region itself. The water gets muddy during Summer, as glaciers melt a lot during the hot weather, the water brings a lot of mud with it down to the river. In addition, it is very hard to fetch water during the winter, as it is unsafe to go down to the river, when it freezes around.
Project Scope
To install, in a tench 80 cms deep on average, 63 mm diameter polyethylene pipeline from the spring source, 5.7 km away from the village, provide cement and other miscellaneous items and outsource pipe fitting service.
Expected benefits
The project will benefit the villagers in following ways.
1) It will significantly reduce the number of infectious diseases spread amongst the residents of the village, specifically children.
2) It will give the opportunity to the villagers to practice sanitation and hygiene measures at a better level, without worrying of the availability of the water
3) The parents will have more time to prepare meals for their children
4) The children will have more time to spend on their studies and other activities

Any tap water can contain different amounts of total dissolved salts (TDS), which in large quantities would make the water harmful to drink. So, it is necessary to test it regularly.
The water is rated based on the TDS amout per liter:
excellent when less than 300 mg, good when between 300-600 gm, fair when 600-900 mg and unacceptable when morethan 1200 mg.
So, can you plan to rest your tap water regularly with this meter we have given you?- Yes
Also, can you plan to have a government specialist check your drinking water if it smells bad, tastes bad or has a color? Yes
