Ajirkh Village of 23 Families

Pre-project situation

The main problem of this village of 26 families had been a supply of drinking water.

For 6 months of the year, They had to fetch  water from Bartang River,  1.5 km away, and also the water was not clean and safe for drinking.

After collecting water from the river, in 3-5 liter bottles, they  had to leave the bottles in the Sun for up to 3 hours before they could drink it.

In summer the water in the River turns dirty

Testimonial from the Village

Appreciation letter to the Donors of the project Mr. Shiraz Dhanani and Mrs. Shahida Dhanani, and the Director of the PO “Umed ba behbudi”, Mr. Mavlonazar Mavlonazarov ,

Ajirkh village consisting of 23 households and 110 people, located on left side of the Bartang river. The village is located 2000m above the sea, 70 km far from the center of Rushon district and 130 km from GBAO center, Khorog.

There is 4 ha of arable land, which has good quality of soil and good opportunity for improving the vegetable and fruit production. But, unfortunately the main challenge had been lack of water. The water reaches the village at late spring, by the month of May. This delays the cultivation period.  Consequently, the harvesting period comes in the rainy season of fall, which causes the damage to some crops.

This lack of water, causes not only delay in cultivation of crops and prevents increasing the size of the farms, but it also  made the drinking water inaccessible during 6 months of the year November – May).

During these 6 months the people of the village used the Bartang river water which is located 1500m far from the village. Consuming this water made the population vulnerable to infections and diseases.

With the initiative of the Mr. Mavlonazar Mavlonazarov the director of the organization and the approval of the programme’s Donors Mr. Shiraz Dhanani and Mrs. Shahida Dhanani, 4 projects were designed for in Bartang district, one of which was provision of drinking water to Ajirkh village.

This project with the support and guidance of the director, Mavlonazar was implemented and finished in a short period and the challenge mentioned above was resolved.

We the residents of the Ajirkh village express our deepest appreciation to the Donors and director of the “Umed ba behbudi” and wish best luck for their future initiatives.

The Head of the Ajirkh village Oshurmahmadov Pahlavonazar
