Project 21: Cost US$9795. In Razuj, Rushan District, UBB restored the water channel for irrigation
Sponsors: Dhananis
Village of Razuj with 55 families
Pre-project situation
For this village, farming is their main source of income. They farm in a valley 8 kms away.
They used to have plenty of water for irrigation from a long Bijravd Irrigation Canal (shown below) which was built during the Soviet time. They used this water to grow wheat, potatoes and other crops.
But every year, some 450-meter long section section of the canal would get destroyed from heavy snowfalls and therefore they were not able to farm a large area of arable land that they own.
Project Scope
To lay pipe over the referencec collapsing section of the canal
Expected Benefit
Items donated
HfP Programme donated to the village 450 meters of pipe (200mm diameter), 5 tons of cement for building a water-reservoir and pipe-fitting service.
With the material we provided, the Village built a reservoir, installed the pipes and now they have piped water to the valley for irrigating a large additional unused arable area.
With the additional farming, they will also be able to sell vegetables to nearby villages.

Testimonial from the Village
To Mr. Shiraz Dhanani Mrs. Shahida Dhanani from the residents of the Razuj village of the Bartang sub-district
We, the residents of Razuj village express our appreciation to Mr. Shiraz Dhanani and Shahida Dhanani for their support and help in construction of the Bijravd irrigation canal.
We have been challenged for many years with the issue of reconstructing this canal, which will now help us expand our farms on which grow 40% wheat, 40% potatoes and 20% for carrot, onions cabbage, etc.
We own 60 ha of land, but before we received your assistance, we could only farm 10 ha.
Now we will be able to farm additional 25 ha of land, because through the pipes installed, we will have uninterrupted supply of water, day and night and even in the winter seasons. This in turn will help the people to improve their quality of life.
Once more please accept our gratitude and we will never forget your support.
