Project 53 (Donated cost US$4750): Installed a Water Wheel in Ajirsh Village ( 24 families) in Bartang Valley, Rushan District, to irrigate a new farmland with water from the bordering river

Funding: Mithoo and Nabat of Calgay voluntarily contributed US$3,500

Ajirsh Village

Pre-Project Situation

There is 4 ha of unused arable land. It has good quality of soil and can be used for increasing  the production of vegetables and fruits.

But, unfortunately the main challenge has been lack of water for irrigation.

The water reaches the village in late spring, in the month of May. This delays the cultivation period and consequently, the delayed harvesting period coincides with the rainy season in fall, and the rain damages some crops.

Also, they are unable to irrigate and farm 4ha of additional land they have on the the other side of the river (shown below) that borders the Village.

Additional area that wll be now farmed

Project Scope

HfP  will fund an installation of a water pump to draw water from the river to irrigate the land in the Village and  also the land across the river.

Project Scope

Expected Benefits

– Additional 4 Ha of land will be cultivated, which will result in increase the production by the households of the village.
– The cultivation period will start earlier which will result in increase of the produced crops.
– Above mentioned benefits, will increase the income of the households and improve their nutritional status.
